7th ANNUAL
CALIFORNIA BIKE COMMUTE WEEK
MAY 14-18th, 2001
October 30, 2000
Dear Area Coordinators,
Our theme this year – A Healthy Commute!
California Bike Commute Week, the largest event of its kind in the country, is a statewide celebration of bicycling designed to bring attention to bicycle commuting and to promote bicycling throughout the week. As part of California Bike Commute Week, most communities throughout California are designating Thursday May 17th as their Bike to Work Day. Some communities are also planning a Bike to School Day, either to be held on the same day as their Bike to Work Day event or earlier in the week. This year’s statewide theme will be a Healthy Commute. We will be focusing on the healthy aspects of bike commuting – regular exercise and clean air.
Whether your event is a small breakfast for your employees or a community wide celebration, now is the time to be putting together ideas for Bike to Work Day. Sponsors make Bike to Work Day happen (either cash sponsors or companies willing to make in-kind donations of food, drinks, prizes, or other donations), now is the time to start approaching sponsors for their support. Since our theme this year is a Healthy Commute, you might want to pay attention to businesses in the health industry local hospitals, doctors groups, health food stores, etc.
As state coordinators for the California Bike Commute Week, we are here to help you in any way we can. We will be putting together materials for the statewide event – artwork, registration forms, posters, sample press releases, etc. We are requesting your help in promoting registration through the California Bike Commute web page, www.californiabikecommute.com
Thank you for your support in this fantastic statewide event. Please provide us any information about your events and feel free to call us if you need some assistance or ideas.
We are looking forward to working with you on California Bike Commute Week 2001.
Sincerely,
K.C. Butler
