Acquisitions: Please let me know if you would like the club to acquire a
particular item. Donations of materials will also be accepted. At present, I
plan on purchasing some local route guides and a bicycle maintenance reference.
CLUB HOLDINGS (with subjective reviews)
ROUTE GUIDES FOR CALIFORNIA:
- Automobile Club of Southern California, "Southern California
Bicycling", 1986. A guide in pamphlet form to established bike paths and
routes. 64pp
- David Kurk and Robert H. Miller, "Bicycle Trails of Southern
California", 1974. Broad coverage of Southern California, with rides
ranging from 3.5 to 50 miles.Most rides are in 10-20 mile range, 156 pp.
- Jerry Schad and Don Krupp, "50 Southern California Bicycle Trips",
1976. Interesting looking road rides, generally in the 20-35 mile range. Most
highly recommended of the Southern California books. 111 pp.
- Paul Van Aken, Jr., "The California Bicycle Tour Atlas and
Service", 1982. A somewhat confusing reference to bicycling in California.
Looks like it could be useful for planning long distance trips in California.
Approx. 120 pp.
BROADER ROUTE GUIDES:
- Karen and Gary Hawkins. "Bicycle Touring in the Western United
States", 1982. Very interesting routes throughout the mountain,
southwestern and pacific coast states. Also an excellent introductory section
on planning for a bicycle tour. 385 pp.
- :Tom Kirkendall and Vicky Spring. "Bicycling the Pacific Coast",
1984. A classic text covering a route through British Columbia, Washington,
Oregon and California. It seems to contain all of the right information. A
must for anyone planning a coastal trip. 224 pp.
OTHER PUBLICATIONS:
- Bicycling Magazine, Bicycling's Fitness Training Manual, 1991.A
pamphlet describing training techniques. Looks useful for anyone starting a
serious training program. 52 pp.
VIDEOS:
- "Bicycle Safety First", Tim Kneeland and Associates, 13 min.
- "Law Enforcement Cycling Association"Video about association.
BICYCLE CLUB NOTEBOOK:
The club notebook contains a collection of general information, with emphasis
on keeping histories of organized rides and their routes. Please make a point of
sending any information you encounter that might be useful. Items from the
notebook will be photocopied and sent out upon request.
