Bike Club Meeting Minutes (3/28/00)
Bike Club Ride and Picnic: The Bike Club will hold a ride and picnic on Sunday, April 9th at John Stevens’ house (5024 Range Horse Lane, Rolling Hills Estates). We’ll provide food and beverages to all paid up members and their families. The BBQ will feature Santa Maria style Tri-tip. Mark tested the recipe last week and boy was it good. Any one who wants to bring homemade items (side dishes or deserts) can tell us and get reimbursed for ingredients.
We’ll have up to three rides. A challenging ride (50 miles) will leave at 8:30 am and will climb PV at least three times. A moderate ride (25 miles) will depart at 10:00 am and be a basic circuit of the hill (one 700 ft. climb up PV drive east + moderate rollers). A fairly flat cruise (5-10 miles) suitable for families will start at 11:30 am. We’ll all meet for lunch at 1:00 pm (couch potato members can show up then). If you’re attending, an RSVP to one of the club presidents is mandatory. Let us know the number of attendees, and which rides you’ll be doing. An email flyer will be sent out Friday, but you now have all the basic info.
Club Purchases: We currently have $2325 in the treasury and will be purchasing new club bicycles. This will include a folding bike from Performance at $399, and two mountain bikes at approximately $500 each. Dan Gutierrez and Dave Kozlowski will identify the best candidates, and the bicycles will be purchased. Dan is also going to report on the condition of the two existing bikes that will be sold/given/auctioned to club members in a manner TBD.
Tool Collection: The club tool collection is currently housed in building D1. Contact Mark Polak if you need anything.
PV Bike Ride June 11: A charity ride will be held in PV on June 11 to benefit the PV Community Help Line. John Gower suggested that we organize a group of volunteers representing the bike club. This is a good idea, and we’re looking for a volunteer to lead this effort.
Riviera Village Starbucks ride: On Sunday March 21, three people attended the Starbuck’s ride and had a great time. These will be held monthly on the Sunday following bike ‘n breakfast. Ride departs at 8:30 am.
Bike to work day: Bike to work day is Thursday May 18. We’ll be hosting our usual activities. This will be the main agenda item at our next meeting (date TBA).
Monday – non-polluting commuting challenge
Tuesday – Fair (Peggy, Mark and Grace are soliciting vendors)
Thursday – Bike to work day – bike club provides breakfast near south lobby. We are considering additional giveaways.
Clean Air Day: The bike club will be staffing a table at the Air Force’s clean air day on April 19.
Gower’s Tour de California: John Gower is planning an unsupported camping tour in the late spring. He will take an inland route north to Yosemite, then cut west to San Francisco, and ride the coastal route back to LA. He is looking for people to join him for all or part of the trip.
