January 2023 HF Net Report

We had our first HF net of the year today, Wednesday January 11, 2023 at 8:30 AM Pacific Time Participants were:

  • Kirk Crawford, KK6KC in D8 Shack, El Segundo CA
  • Jeff Wong, W0NGJ in Crossville TN
  • Doug McNulty, KM4GC in Leesburg VA
  • Bob Lanahan, KK6WYW using a web SDR located in Georgia

Phone QSO

We had good two way voice communications among all stations (Bob’s SDR is only RX) on 20 meters (14.315 MHz).

Jeff’s recording of the QSO
Bob’s recording of the QSO
Here are the three operators on the teams call
Here is what Bob’s web SDR looked like during the QSO.

JS8 Call

We switched to JS8 Call which only Doug and Kirk had working and that worked just fine. Even in Turbo Mode!

Here is a screen of JS8 Call (Kirk’s Computer) The red backed text is people contacting Kirk. You can see the waterfall at the bottom with the communication around 1400 hz.
JS8 Call uses a single frequency in each band
This is turbo mode. It uses more bandwidth ( the section around 1400 is wider) but you can send faster
Here are the bandwidths and speeds of the various modes.

It was a successful HF Net. See you next month. This year our goal is to get WinLink working over HF and add that to our HF Net.
