The Aerospace Amateur Radio Club maintains multiple club stations. All club members are welcome to use the club stations. Go to the Member Info page to learn more about station access. (You must be logged in to the website)
A2 Shack
This shack is in A2 on the second floor, in room 2046. We have HF, VHF, and UHF capabilities. Equipment includes an Icom IC-735 all mode HF transceiver, covering 160 through 10 meters. A Yaesu FT-736R 2 meter and 70 centimeter base station all mode transceiver is employed as a packet radio. An AEA PK-232 dual port TNC is connected to our HF rig and the 2 meter section of the FT-736R.
Equipment Status:
- Yaesu FT-1000MP – Plugged into power, powers on, works great at HF frequencies
- Yaesu FT-736R – Plugged into power, powers on, works great at UHF and VHF frequencies
- Kenwood TS-940S – Not plugged into power, intermittent issues with LSB, USB and CW
- ICOM IC-735 – Not plugged into power, tuner knob not working and/or intermittent tuning issues
- Yaesu FRG-7700 – Not plugged into power, tuner knob not working and/or intermittent tuning issues
The shack has a Intel Core i3 computer, SignaLink interface equipment, and FLDigi and WSJT-X to allow for digital ham radio communication. It currently uses WiFi.
A second computer is also in the shack, it’s a Intel Core i5, it will be
configured to operate on the Aerospace LAN.
The shack includes Terminal Node Controller (TNC) equipment, but it’s not currently connected.
EOC Facility (A3 Cafeteria)
On the first floor of A3, across from the ATM, in A3/1064, W6AGO maintains a full amateur station covering HF, 144, 220, 440, and 1200 MHz, including 2 meter packet. All VHF/UHF rigs are Kenwood TM series mobile transceivers, a TM-241A (2m), TM-331A (1.2m), TM-441A (70cm), and TM-541A (1.2GHz) to be exact. The packet station is made up of a Kenwood TM-241A transceiver, an AEA PK-88 TNC.
The HF Station is a ICOM 7300 connected to a GAP Eagle DX antenna. The antenna is 10M-40M. There is also a computer connected to the radio for digital modes. Log in with your own account. Several digital mode programs are already installed. If you need something else contact Kirk Crawford.
The entry code is the same as the one used on the A2 shack. If you are a member of the club login to this site and go to the Shack Access page.
D8 Shack
Located on the 3rd floor of D8, the club’s second radio shack also has HF, VHF and UHF capability. The HF bands are covered by a Yaesu all mode FT-1000MP transceiver, driving Step IR adjustable antenna or a Cushcraft three-element A3WS yagi at 45 ft for the 12-17-30 meter WARC bands. Covering 6, 2 meters and 70 centimeters is a Yaesu FT-736R all mode transceiver driving an AEA dual band isopole for 2 meters or a seven element yagi for 6 meters. Mirage linear amplifiers are available for 2 meters and 70 centimeters, as are Heathkit SB-220 amplifiers for HF and 6 meters. A Bencher iambic keyer is available for CW use. An Icom IC-27H 2 meter mobile transceiver serves as a packet radio, working in tandem with an AEA PK-88 TNC and Pentium PC.
EMCC Trailer
The Emergency Management Communications Center Trailer is an identical station to the EOC facility, with the added capability of being able to be deployed where needed. A C and Ku band satellite receiver is installed and can be easily configured wherever the trailer is deployed. The EMCC also has multi-line telephones which can be patched in to the Aerospace telephone network.
Repeater
We have components for a repeater that is being set up by a member on the roof of A8. It will be set up on the test pair. Here is a powerpoint about it’s layout.
Chantilly HAM Shack
COS Shack
We also have a shack at our Colorado Springs Facility in room 1007 in COS-1. It is run by a seperate but associated club. If you work at Aerospace Colorado Springs and want to join them, or have access to the shack, contact them here.
