Our January HF Net started at 8:30AM PST on January 22, 2025. I (Kirk Crawford KK6KC) was in the A3 shack in El Segundo with Kevin Kirio AJ6ZJ. Doug McNulty KM4GC was at his home QTH in Leesburg VA. Bob Lanahan KK6WYW joined us late as an observer. We tried several bands from 10M to 20M. Best was 12M. Here are the results:
We had our HF Net for November on 11/6 at 8:30 AM PST.
David Ping WB6DP joined me, Kirk Crawford KK6KC in the A3 Shack, and we had Doug McNulty KM4GC in Leesburg VA and Bob Lanahan KK6WYW in Vero Beach FL. Kevin Kirio was in the teams meeting as an observer.

So we had workable coast to coast communication on multiple bands. The propagation was rapidly changing during the contacts. See you next month!
On February 28 2024 11:30 AM PDT we had a meeting. Our presentation was on VarAC a new HF Chat mode. Doug McNulty (KM4GC) and Bob Lanahan (KK6WYW) gave the talk. I presented a few slides at the beginning about our A3 Antenna status and the EOC trailer status.
We had our first HF net of the year today, Wednesday January 11, 2023 at 8:30 AM Pacific Time Participants were:
Kirk Crawford, KK6KC in D8 Shack, El Segundo CA
Jeff Wong, W0NGJ in Crossville TN
Doug McNulty, KM4GC in Leesburg VA
Bob Lanahan, KK6WYW using a web SDR located in Georgia
Phone QSO
We had good two way voice communications among all stations (Bob’s SDR is only RX) on 20 meters (14.315 MHz).
Jeff’s recording of the QSOBob’s recording of the QSOHere are the three operators on the teams callHere is what Bob’s web SDR looked like during the QSO.
JS8 Call
We switched to JS8 Call which only Doug and Kirk had working and that worked just fine. Even in Turbo Mode!
Here is a screen of JS8 Call (Kirk’s Computer) The red backed text is people contacting Kirk. You can see the waterfall at the bottom with the communication around 1400 hz.JS8 Call uses a single frequency in each bandThis is turbo mode. It uses more bandwidth ( the section around 1400 is wider) but you can send fasterHere are the bandwidths and speeds of the various modes.
It was a successful HF Net. See you next month. This year our goal is to get WinLink working over HF and add that to our HF Net.
